Easterly Eden- A Candle Inspired by Memory & Legacy
Easterly Eden is a collaborative project between Anouska Tamony and Angela Flanders Perfumery. Inspired by a recent interior design project, Anouska was keen to develop a candle that encapsulated the atmosphere and inspiration of the design in scent.
A candle inspired by memory and legacy
Easterly Eden was born from a personal connection. Anouska first discovered Angela Flanders’ perfumes years ago while living close to their original Columbia Road shop, where a spontaneous visit during the flower market sparked the discovery of their unique artisan scents.
This collaboration brings together two creative lineages. Angela Flanders who celebrates forty years of artisan perfumery, is now led by Angela’s daughter Kate, continuing a family tradition of local making that stretches back to the Huguenot silk weavers of East London. For Anouska, the partnership reflects her own creative inheritance, inspired by her maternal grandmother, a couture seamstress who shaped her reverence for craft and detail.
The scent
The scent is a mysterious yet tender oriental composition where delicate jasmine and rose bloom in heady layers, brightened by the crisp lift of lemon leaves. Beneath, a warm cedarwood heart is deepened with incense, sandalwood, and the intrigue of exotic spices. Together, these notes create an atmosphere that feels cocooning yet gently transportive, an invitation to linger and unwind.
A voyage in wax and flame
Easterly Eden is shaped by literature, folklore and journeys both literal and metaphorical. Inspired by the wisdom of Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet, the candle bears the words:
“Your house shall not be an anchor but a mast.”
A reminder that homes are vessels, places that steady us, yet encourage movement, imagination, and the exploration of new horizons.
The craft
The limited edition candles were hand poured at the Angela Flanders studio, using a carefully balance blend of waxes and the perfume jus. Each candle is poured twice and allowed to cure at the end before being cleaned, polished and labelled, boxed and ribbon tied. A patient process captured beautifully here.
